Liebe Hörerinnen, liebe Hörer
„It’s
Make Believe Ballroom Time “.
„MAKE BELIEVE BALLROOM“ erleben konnten
Dabei waren auch die best-bekannten
Gesangsgruppen‚ die mein Freund Richard
Grudens in seinem Buch „PERFECT HARMONY“ durch Geschichten ‚ Interviews und
Bilder zusammenfasste.
Dear
Reader
It
was in October of 1998 when my wife Nelly and I met Richard Grudens at the
Three Village Inn of Stony Brook on Long Island New York. We had enjoyed a meal of PotRoast, Mashed
Potatoes, Vegetables, a glass of Ice Tea and washed it all down with black
coffee before we went into the interview. During the talk Richard told me that,
when writing his book The Song Stars,
he asked Frankie Laine if he could help him with a story about Edith Piaf, since
Frankie had been performing with Edith during the 1950s in Paris. Well Frankie
Laine could not help but suggested to Richard: “Call Max Wirz in Switzerland.
He knows all about those European singers.”
And
so, one evening in 1997 I got a call from Richard and an enduring friendship
and cooperation on many books had its beginning.Normally one would dedicate a
Radio Show to a musician or singer. However, as an exception this program is
dedicated to an author of many exciting books about America’s great singers,
musicians, entertainers as well as the men and women who composed the songs and
wrote the lyrics. Canaries, crooners and beautiful big band sounds, our kind of
music, we still love to hear when we can hear them. In his most recent book
PERFECT HARMONY Richard assembled stories of over 80 groups, some of them we
never heard of over here in Europe.
To
illustrate Richard’s work in music I have selected a few singing groups whose
fame spilled over to Europe and are also part of “our kind of music”.
Thank
you Richard for, yourcontinuous support and your friendship.
Sincerely
yours,
Max
…
and now, everyone sit back, relax and enjoy your
MAKE
BELIEVE BALLROOM in PERFECTT HARMONY …
